Contest Information

Awards

"Outstanding Group of the Day" trophy is awarded each day for High School, Middle School/Jr. High Ensembles. "Best in Class" trophies are awarded in classes with two or more entries.  All groups receive a trophy, and a recording of their performance.  Certificates of Merit are awarded for outstanding solo performances and/or outstanding section performances. 

Adjudication

We utilize a divisional rating system, though ensembles may choose to participate for comments only if preferred. Each group is evaluated by a panel of three adjudicators with diverse musical backgrounds. Our adjudication emphasizes the overall quality of performance above all else. Selections from state-approved music lists are strongly recommended.

 

Performance

Each ensemble will be assigned a specific time for arrival, warm-up, stage entry, performance, and exit. To ensure a smooth and timely event for all participants, please plan to arrive promptly and follow the published schedule. Detailed information—including parking instructions, entry and exit points, and your designated times—will be provided in advance. Our priority is to create a positive and efficient experience for every group, and we are committed to staying on schedule throughout the festival.

A Festival for All Young Musicians

While rooted in McKinney ISD, the festival is proudly open to out-of-district ensembles and private organizations seeking a high-quality performance experience in a professional venue. Join us in inspiring the next generation of musicians in an event that prioritizes growth, artistry, and community.

 

Equipment

McKinney Music Festivals provides:  Chairs, stands.

Percussion equipment provided:  Bass Drum, Gong, 4 Timpani, Chimes, Xylophone, Marimba, Vibraphone, Orchestra Bells and Acoustic Piano.
